About
The University of Essex LGBT Society is one of the biggest and best in the UK. Winners of the 2008 NUS LGBT Award for Most Inclusive LGBT Union, and runners up in 2009 Best Society Award. We have well over one hundred members, associates, contributors and friends from a wide range of religious, racial and social backgrounds.
The LGBT Society exists to provide support, tailored social events and a strong, active campaign group for students and staff of the University who self define as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (Transgender, Transsexual and Transvestite) as well as Queer, Bi-gendered, polysexual, FTM, MTF, MSM, WSW, epicene, and gender queer persons. The society also welcome those who are friends of LGBT students and the wider liberation campaign.
Aswell as holding great social events the society and SU LGBT Committee work tirelessly towards an equal opportunities environment in which the interests of our members are respected and considered.
