Donation Not Discrimination 2010

We collected over 500 signatures, including the VC, had over 40 people to a talk and got in the local paper!

Two days of events organized by the Students Union LGBT Officer and Committee looking at ban on gay or bisexual men giving blood. The two days will feature a stall, publicity stunt, petition and a talk from NUS LGBT committee.
At a time when blood donations across the UK are falling University of Essex LGBT and NUS LGBT believe that the ban on gay and bisexual men from giving blood brought in in the 1980’s perpetuates the myth that H…IV is a gay disease and call on the blood service to stop discriminating against gay and bisexual men.

Other countries have lifted the ban so why haven’t we?
